Artist Statement
I am interested in that sliver of space where traditional art forms juxtapose the existential implications of emerging technologies. I have found, this is where the possibilities for new work exists, after two decades of exploration and practice.
My background
My career as an exhibiting art maker is constantly colliding creatively with my role as an art director which ultimately informs my approach to telling story. As an artist I engage the creative process from the perspective of constructing forms in tangible materials from concept. However, as a designer I am engaging the process by removing obstacles to storytelling by way of subtraction using ever evolving tech. These opposing creative processes have cross pollinated and spawned fresh visual ideas about interaction, perception, and meaning.
My practice
I employ technology when I can see a clear path for it to transform and expand the human experience. It is very easy for us to loose site of human centered intellectual and social paradigms and what their loss implies about our future. As a leader in immersive technologies, I am interested the ways in which digital media can enhance how we perceive our spaces, stories, and connections.
My process
I create conceptual work by striking the delicate balance between preserving traditional artistic methods and experimentation. My goal is to push the limits of what’s possible by integrating new approaches with the traditional.
My signature style, “digirealism,” juxtaposes the digital with the tangible, using fine art techniques to create works that mimic digitally produced image which both visually challenges and provokes thought.
My philosophy
I believe my work should be an experience that sparks dialogue about why as humans we are the way that we are in the spaces that we inhabit. Through my work, I aim to redefine the relationship between art and technology, challenging both myself and the viewer to see new ways of looking at ourselves.
